I believe virtually all La Quinta properties are pet friendly.
I stay at Choice Hotels to rack up points for free stays: Sleep Inn, Quality Inn, Comfort Inn -- and most of them are pet friendly also. It varies by each motel though, so check to be sure by calling their front desk.

Google is your friend. Many places have weight restrictions and number of pets allowed; some penalize you with a non-refundable fee. No pets allowed in motels in state of NC.
Rules, rules, rules... That's one reason why we got an Escape.

We tend to stay at La Quinta's as previous poster stated they nearly all take dogs and no fee or size restrictions.
Their quality varies so I check reviews ahead of time, some are newly renovated and others need some tlc. They are about the only chain with no pet fees that I have found.
It varies within a chain. I spend a lot of time in hotel rooms as I travel as an IT Consultant. I've found hotel A of a chain says no pets while hotel B in the same chain is pet friendly. I did a network job in Houston last year and stayed at an Embassy Suites that was pet friendly. Not only did they allow pets, but they offered dog sitting services that included a 2 hour exercise in the park across the street from the hotel. That was the only business trip I was ever able to take my dog with me. She loved it.
It's best to check with individual hotels about their pet policy rather than assuming. The GMs at most properties have quite a bit of leeway in determining things like that.
