The Boxing Day entry on WikiPedia is quite interesting. I still think my explanations are better:
1) It is so named because shoppers must fight (box) each other to get the deals they want.
2) It is so named due to the large number of items sold (in boxes) keeping box manufacturers in business.
We also chose not to participate - staying at home or camping are MUCH better alternatives (to my shopping challenged mind.)

As a child, I was told Boxing Day was named as it was the day that people boxed up clothing, food etc. for the poor.
Had nothing to do with buying more stuff.
I spent the day napping.

Happy Boxing Day to all our Canadian folks! Have a great day
Hi: Donna D... Thanks... I spent the day working on my wreck room... "Boxing" in the window frame.
My credit cards spent the day "Cooling down". Alf
