Prairie Schooners....
As I sit here, contemplating the name of my new camper to be Prairie Schooner
I think about what it must have been like in the 1800's, packing all your possessions and crossing the country, seeking adventure along the way. Not much different than modern day campers, heading out for the unknowns. Back then, the trip was ending one way of life and starting a new one. Like then, this maybe my last camper, but hopefully I will enjoy it for a long while, enjoying several trips across the plains.
History it seems repeats itself, as Studebaker started as a wagon and wheel barrow manufacturer in the 19th century before making auto's in the 20th century .... Studebaker 100 - History of Studebaker
HHmm, perhaps Studebaker Escape would be a better choice?

I think Prairie Schooner would be an awesome name. Still haven't decided if we will name ours or not.

Sounds like a great name. Of course where I grew up on the prairies in Western Canada, a "schooner" usually referred to one of these:

This kind of reminds me of one of my earliest posts to the forum. When a thread came up on how to increase effectiveness of solar during cloudy days, I mentioned that "maybe you just have to reduce your electrical usage on those days." I was told in a reply that I was wanting to go back to the days of the covered wagon! Luckily, I've got a thick skin and didn't let the reply get to me and turn me off on this great forum!

Yeah, but you'll have your own bathroom, complete with toilet and shower and faucet! You wouldn't have on those original ones. And the springs will be lots nicer on the tushy!

That's why ours is gonna be called "The Trailer". As in "I'm gonna take the trailer out next week" or "I need to wash the trailer" or "I need new (insert something else to spend your money on) for The Trailer".

Cool name, Jim, but be prepared when you're in your home state for people to point westward and say "You must be lost - the prairies are that way".
By the time my grandmother moved west to Alberta to homestead the railway had been completed; I assume they took the train and certainly didn't use a horse-drawn wagon (although my grandfather ran a stagecoach business for a while). Now virtually nobody uses a train for long-distance transportation in Canada. It's amusing that some things do kind of go in cycles.

Truckee is a neat railroad town, a lot of history can be found there, including the Donners, who later opened a restaurant in San Francisco......!!!
