Thanks for all your kind words. We are really looking forward to the much quieter pace

As far as house prices: We found that prices in Chase were about half that of similar properties in Victoria, although further up The Island prices tend to be lower as well. We had been casually looking in Qualicum Beach and the Comox Valley where prices are similarly lower to some extent.

There are some developments going on around the lower Island - Sooke, Langford etc where they are trying to keep house prices down. (High density) Part of what that means to those of us who have lived here all our lives is that traffic congestion is getting worse and worse. What we used to call "ferry traffic" once every two hours, or "rush hour", we now experience as non-stop traffic trying to get out of Victoria in any direction at any time...

Still a nice place to visit though!

We have considered Comox, Qualicum and Langford as a retirement home, but my daughter said if we moved to the Island she wasn't coming over to visit. And, for us to leave the Island with a trailer would be costly.
So, we are just staying put, and I don't have to clean out the attic.
Hospital is 15 minutes away. Bus stop is a five minute walk. And, I know everything that is wrong and needs to be fixed in this 70-year-old house.
Put in a new furnace ( $3,500 ). Had the electrical fixed this past week ( $1,500 ) to satisfy the insurance company, and it's still much less than it would cost to move.
Inertia isn't all that bad at this age.

Bedroom and, more importantly, bathroom downstairs? The Occupational Therapist asks.

That too.
All the townhouses these days have a flight of stairs up to the living area an another set of stairs up to the bedroom. Small footprint.
