How Hot?
I'm looking at purchasing a used Escape 17 or 19 for use in AZ. It gets to be 115 sometimes, and I was wondering how cool I could keep an Escape in those temps. Also what are people's experiences in their trailers for extended times in hot weather?
ex: It was 100 degrees and the inside was ~80degrees.
That sort of thing.
Thanks so much in advance!

Gery - we haven't camped that hot, but have been in the 90's with our 17 and the A/C had no problem getting it cool inside. The A/C actually seemed oversized to me for the size of the 17. We had the extra insulation package and insulated windows. I would definitely want that along with the A/C in the temps you are taking about.

I spent a week in Monument Valley this past June, temps hovered around 110 degrees F, and I had no problem keeping the trailer in the low 70s, in full sun, and the A/C did NOT run constantly.

We live in AZ and have the Escape 19. We don't camp locally when it hits those temps and not going to.
When we hit those kind of temps the trailer goes north to Flagstaff or White Mountains, somewhere over 7000 feet and the temps stay in the 70's or 80's. The AC has worked fine into the 90's, and will probably work into the 100's, but not going to intentionally find out.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! So, it sounds like I'd be good at 100 or lower... and *maybe* above. That's super helpful. Also looking at the insulation package and the double windows.
Thanks again,
Gery

119 degrees at Cattail Cove
We camped in our Escape 19 with the air conditioning on full blast when it was 119 degrees in the shade at Cattail Cove AZ near Parker. We endured it for about three days and then left because it was so miserable at night for sleeping. If I lived in AZ and planned on camping often in that hot weather I would get a bigger AC that would probably do the trick.

Is it really camping if you're sitting inside the trailer with the A/C going full blast?

I'm sure if you built a shade cover it would be quite comfortable inside.

There's an awful lot of folks out there who don't camp in their rec vehicles, more like rolling motel rooms.

Speaking of shade, has anyone tried one of the awning shades? Saw a few in use on bigger rigs in AZ, thought one might be a good thing to tote along.

I think they work quite well, not sure with the power but it will work with the manual awning.

I have a 21 with the insulation and double-paned windows. From my experience I think the A/C could keep your trailer comfortable, as it seems a bit oversized. It's noisy, though.

Get the digital thermostat for cooling and heating. From what I understand it will let the A/C fan run at a slower, quieter speed.

Given a choice, I'd just stay home.

I really appreciate all the help. This has pointed me in the right direction. Looks like I'd want to get an awning that I could set up over the trailer along with possibly a larger a/c unit, and a digital thermometer to manage the unit.
Thanks again everybody. You guys are super friendly and helpful.

I forgot to mention, I do have the insulation package and double pane windows except in the sleeping loft.
