Our move to everything being short, sweet and fast . That's why we go camping and go back to simple and chill . Pat

I have to admit that I15 in the Salt Lake City area is one of the few interstates I was nervous about driving my usual 60MPH.

Been there on I-15, with a death grip on the wheel…Drove there a week ago for granddaughter's graduation. Late Thursday afternoon we deviated east to Ogden Valley to visit our 80's neighborhood, had a burger and beer at the Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville, then meandered south to eventually rejoin I-15 at Farmington. By then - light traffic and random speeders; the worst of which was a patrol car smoking down the express lane - no flashing lights. Returned early Saturday morning - light traffic. Good timing - more luck than intention!

I agree that the thread went a little off the tracks. It's just a chronicle of our trip to Osoyoos and back, and included an observation that I-15 through Salt Lake was scary stuff. It wasn't a comment about culture or religion. I grew up in the Salt Lake area, and the driving habits have changed dramatically since I left in 1979. That's really all I was trying to say.

Given the choice we usually take 93 along the eastern edge of NV. Great road, beautiful scenery, little traffic, and shorter distance. Most of the campground folks in NV and Idaho advised us to avoid I-15 at all costs.

I see this thread as a public service. Now that I am aware of this, thank you very much, I will be aware as we travel in that direction. As Greg mentioned, alternate routes have distinct advantages and will be considered for their unique qualities.

Robert, glad you mentioned this, it's an important topic - road safety.

San Antonio to Canada - Part Deaux

We're at Bonito Hollow Campground in the mountains of south central New Mexico, near Ruidoso tonight. Nice place. There apparently was a pretty devastating forest fire about 4 years ago and many of the mountain tops are just dead pine trees. The campground owner tells me the place was shut down for a year while they rebuilt, because the fire took out their water system and power.

Robert,
What are you averaging on the return trip with gas in comparison to the trip going out?

Hi: cpaharley2008... Interesting question. IMHO after the rally It'd be "All downhill from here" so the mileage should be much better. Alf

But you are forgetting the additional weight being carried home from all that good rally food and wine and beer and let's not forget ......poutine.
