Dirty Shoes
Often our shoes are muddy/sandy from hiking. Decided to make a shoe box to use with our door under the bed in our 21. Box and sled it slides in are all ABS plastic; box has removable dividers. Idea was to be able to slide it out to put shoes in before we enter the trailer, and be able to hose it out at the end of our trip. Kind of a square bucket with partitions.
Works great!

Nice job, seems like uses for plastic is limitless. Perhaps a smaller version for the front outside hatch or the back of your tow vehicle.

This has to be my most favoured widget of yours to date Charlie. We use the dinette cabinet right inside the door for shoe storage. My wife put in a wire shelf, but our shoes are always in a jumbled pile it seems.
Dirty shoes stay outside unless we are travelling though.
Keep up the good thinkin'.

How big is that cupboard compared with the under-bench cupboard on a 19? We've got a rubbermaid bin stored in there for shoes, but it's both not big enough for all the shoes the pair of us use, and at the same time barely small enough to fit through the cupboard door.
Storing the shoes the way you do is more efficient, but I'm wondering if that makes enough of a difference.
We typically each bring along a pair of sandals, hiking boots, and running shoes. If the hiking boots and running shoes are stored away, they don't fit well...
We've been working with the rule that shoes don't come in past the mat in the doorway, but that hasn't been good enough -- we end up with a dirty mat and the dirt migrates in to the rest of the floor. Time to put a mat down outside and insist that shoes stay outside completely.

We use a 12x7 patio mat under the entire awning, as well as a thin 2x3 horsehair mat right at the door for wiping feet if still a bit dirty. This allows us to go in and out of the trailer with our shoes on, with next to no dirt brought in. A sweeping, or vacuuming, every other day or so gets any debris that may get in. For us, removing shoes every time we go in and out would be too much of a bother.
If still dirty after wiping on the doormat, footwear comes off outside.

What chemical liquid melts and fuses plastic sheets together, anyone?

Plexi Glue. Can be bought at craft stores and the like. Works similar to Super Glue. Hold pieces together, use hypodermic needle to apply plexi glue to joint. Hold for a few secs.
The glue will mar any area not protected so be careful.

Fusing is commonly called "solvent welding" as there is no glue involved; once the solvent evaporates it is a 100% plastic welded joint. Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) works well with ABS and allows some setup time to finalize position after application - say 5 seconds before it starts to really "set up" and is readily available at hardware stores. Applied with a hypo squeeze bottle (generally Nalgene material.)

The 21 door opening is 14 x 13 inches; I made the box 10 inches tall as I had to raise it to clear water lines that blocked off one corner. Front to back is 14 inches. Material is 3/16 ABS for the box and 1/8th inch for the mounting "sled."

I want one! I would guess you could make it a little longer say with 4 compartments?
I will measure the door on our 19' tonight to make sure it is the same size. I have no water lines in ours and think it is clear back as far as I want to go but need to check.

Great idea. My only suggestion would be to drill some holes in the outer walls/dividers so there is ventilation/drying if the shoes are damp.

Ron should chime in about his shoes holder on his door.
I copied the idea at the rally in June albeit a bit smaller-(smaller door and not the exact unit)--and have had a lot of "ooohs" and "great ideas" with other folks that have seen it...Boots stay in the back of the vehicle.
We were just throwing all our shoes in the bottom of the wardrobe--but were a jumbled mess---a wine case fits much better in there now!!

I saw that at the rally too, a good idea as well. We followed the lead of baglo, and hang our garbage can on the door, which actually works really great, as most of the time the door is open, and we are prepping food outdoors, and the garbage can is right handy then.

What I like about it, is when the door is closed, the trash can is in an area nobody uses.

Yup, you open the door and it's no longer in the way.

Glenn,
In your picture it appears to be a battery vent under your lower refer vent? I thought your batteries were on your rear bumper?

Battery is on rear bumper. I don't know what that vent is for. Maybe for the grey-water tank?

Awesome idea! I have used a gray plastic box for a number of years along the same lines, storing it outside, under the trailer by the door when camping. It also holds chock and blocks during transit.
Yours is a much better implementation....
