Rain Shield for open windows

Years ago there was a product for having open windows during rain. Company got bought and product was dropped by new owners. Here's my take on a replacement - two opposing Keder rails with a flat piece of 0.080 inch clear plexiglass that bows outward depending on the closeness of the Keder rails. Pic is on an Escape 21 and shield is 9 inches wide - still has protective film on it as clear is hard to photograph. Panel is flat so easy to store. Rails stay mounted with 3M VHB tape. Could be any width - any recommends?

Will they work?

It's raining out your way these days, eh? Do they function as you envisioned? Testing is in order.

From the photo, I questioned if the shield was wide enough to stop some windblown, sideways driven rain.
Otherwise, this looks like a good solution, except for the need for manual attachment and or removal.

stay dry,

Manual use means easy to clean between uses and not going brittle due to UV when not needed. It can be as wide as one wants to order, up to 48 inches wide. Mount/unmount takes less then 5 seconds.

Details, details

Do you have a link for the model & part number of the Kedar track you used, and your attachment tape? That would be helpful.

To remove it, will you slide it out of the rails or bow it outward to remove one end?

I hope you'll keep us updated on its performance in wind and rain as you use it. Better than a closed window, for sure.

Just bow it; at 0.080 inch it's flexible. Idea is easy in/easy out.

It's not an option possibility if you have an existing trailer without awning windows.

The nice though about owning a Escape trailer is that you can easily sell and upgrade at your leisure.../..

My trailer came with this mod.

You can drop them as low as you want. High winds I button them down or remove.
2 minutes or less per window.

The awning is a very practical solution, and obviously also gives you shade if desired! Very nice, thanks for sharing!

The awning also has a cute factor to it. The plexiglass would be easy to store. I wonder if you could hot glue some round plastic rods on the ends of the plexiglass to fit the Keder rails so the wind does not pop it out. I don't know if wind would be a problem so I might be taking out of my bee-hind. :-)
Great IDEA tractors1.

Awnings

Little house customs makes awnings for Casita windows. I would bet you could fit it to an Escape.

Window Louvers and Window Awnings

Excellent idea!!

Yes, The sought after window louvers were made by MaxxAir but, unfortunately, per this FiberglassRV forum, they are no longer available.

I did find an alternative on this FiberglassRV forum and, after contacting Wayne, he did make a louver that works quite well on my Casita. There is an original version and a version that fits my (narrow opening) emergency escape window.

At several rallys/gatherings many Escape folks have expressed interest in Wayne’s RVent louvers but unfortunately Wayne hasn’t expressed interest in adapting his design for dual-pane windows.

Window awnings are a great alternative to the louvers. After seeing a couple of versions, I did make DIY versions for my Casita. Here is a link to my “how-to” make them. Note that using Keder rails with VHB tape for the top attachment to the travel trailer and suction cups for the horizontal support, no holes are required to the trailer. Light duty bungee cords are used to deflect wind from flipping the awnings up; on a Casita or Scamp we use the belly band as a holding point but on an Escape you would use a Command hook (or equivalent) to support that function.

Pretty neat. Ever think about making one with a flexible solar panel?
