Umbra Hooks
I recently received some Umbra Hooks for our 19. These are a 5 long strip with the backing in oak. I planned to cut it down if needed. It's like this one.
However, I find that the hooks don't stay up/retracted. There is no spring or friction mechanism to hold them in place. With the vibration of a trailer I'm sure they'll mostly fall open. Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes before I send it back?
Thanks.

There's some kind of wire that runs through them that helps with the tension of the hooks so they stay folded. On one of ours, there is a single hook that won't stay put. When they cut them to fit it can also worsen this problem. Some are better than others (more "tight" in the recess for the hooks). If yours aren't tight, I would get them replaced. You might have one hook that won't stay put, but if they are all loose it's probably a quality control problem.

Depends on what length you order and where you put them. we put one on the wall to the right of the bathroom door, and that one ( a 5 hook model) did not need cutting. The one we put around the corner (dinette area) had to be cut down to 4 hooks to fit.

Thanks, I was wondering if the 5 hook would fit on the right of the bathroom.

Yeah, I think I got that backwards. Tom is right. The one to the right of the door was the cut one (4 hooks) and the one around the corner is the uncut one (5 hooks). Anyway, one of them is cut....lol.

We have 5 sets: 2 sets of 3 and 3 sets of 5.. One 5 is mounted on the bath door; another to the right of the bath door & the 3rd around the corner on the bath wall. The 2 sets of 3s are on the bed end, one on each side. Sometimes, it cooler or wet weather, all the hooks are occupied with towels, clothes, jackets, toiletry gear, etc. The Umbras really help keep the minimal counter & table space free.

You did not have that wall reinforced, did you? Do they just tap on the wall to see where a stud is or you put those up?

Groma,
About 18.5 inches but, if you mount the Umbra all the way to top edge of the wall molding, the 5 hook mounts easily with VHB tape. No holes. And no trimming of the Umbra is necessary.

So, is that from the edge of the bathroom door to corner?

We have some individual hooks. I wonder how it is that the VHB tape does not pull the covering off of the wall. We were going to use screws in some maybe. Also may try the backing that comes with Command hooks as there is extra in a package.
