It has been discussed a bunch here, but cutting a bit of is necessary. They are great, but rarely needed.

yeah, I've whacked about 2" off the one I put in the middle, leaving a beveled edge, using a hacksaw. the length as supplied is suitable for larger tandems than our little 21's or 5.0's use.

rarely needed? about the only place i've not needed them is in RV parks, which is a small minority of our camping. I even need them in my own driveway if the trailer is to be reasonably level, as the driveway has a slope.

The company which makes the Fold-a-Cover (~$900) also makes a Personal Caddy (~$500). The caddy is aluminum, custom fit to the model of your truck, and does not have a lid--it relies on the fold-a-cover.
