Surge Protector Humming

Hello,

I wonder if someone can point me to a previous thread or if they have any suggestions. When we are plugged into power the surge protector hums, it has always made a bit of noise but now it is getting louder. It was installed by ETI in our 2014 17B.

Thanks.

David

Sometimes if it has tripped the reconnection repeat can hum. It is covered by a lifetime warranty by Progressive, contact them and can help you.

It can be a dirty contactor (relay), over time the contacts can also get scorched. As Jim says, contact Progressive. They had me open and clean mine, when that didn't help they sent me a new one. If you are not comfortable working on such tell them so.

Our EMS scorched inside, so much so that it actually caused a gap in the casing and stopped working. However, no issues with Progressive sending me a new one, which I replaced fairly easily, providing you don't mind working with electrics. Obviously, (just in case anyone wondered) the power cord was disconnected, but it was mostly pretty straightforward, although there were a couple of things that you had to connect the right way round.

I called Progressive about my hum over a year ago. Tech was quite helpful. He said to cut power and tap the contacts quickly with a - screwdriver. That over time they get scorched from arcing. I have the same problem these daze. He said I should try to get a 30a
breaker as they often will hum on 20a circuits.

I've sent off an email to Progressive and will wait to see what they have to say. Thanks for all your help. I'll post their response.

Emailed Progressive and they said to fill out a warranty claim, it was approved quickly and the new unit arrived yesterday. I installed it this morning and all is well. Progressive was very good to deal with.

It's always a pleasure dealing with companies that highly value quality customer service. Escape falls into this category as well. I will even spend more money to do business with such companies when I have a choice, as long as pricing is still somewhere in the "fair" range.
