Back in the day, speed shops, big and small, would make motor mounts for bigger motors, you'd remove the 4 or 6 cylinder and put in that big block you always wanted anyways. Could do it with cars up...

I don't think a ranger would have anywhere near the towability of any F150, no matter the engine size. Even new F150's tow capacity is based on a wide number of things, including the type steel used...
