Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

I've ordered a "cigarette lighter power adapter" for the Sirius Executive dock seen on the counter. Had to get it from the U.S. and it cost me $15 plus $26 shipping, plus tax when it arrives. Then I...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

I'll take a pic and post it shortly, as in the next day or two.

Anyway, I put it up with double adhesive tape and it sucked itself to the cabinet so that I couldn't shift it at all. Supposed to be...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

My buddy, who owns a firm that does corporate interior design favors the first horizontal application I posted.

Placing it at the bottom begs for something else to fill the space above. Same with...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Looking at the pic, I'd have to move it up in line with the bottom of the cupboard door.

Here it is.

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

OK, this is where I would place it vertically. It needs to be away from the cabinet door. I've allowed 1/4 inch top and bottom and on the right side. I still have to coat with satin Varathane.

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

PS.

I think I need to look at it mounted vertically, perhaps in the same spot.

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Holes drilled. I'm just sticking it up with tape in different locations to see where I want it.

In the pic it doesn't look centred in the panel because of the camera angle, but it is.

I was...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Yup, but the hygrometer is useful for monitoring moisture in the trailer over the winter. Temp guage will help with setting the thermostat. Not sure how helpful a barometer is. Nothing you can do...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Asking me to swim is like asking a dolphin to run a marathon.

Daughter's boy-toy just brought the mount for the instruments, after he cut it to size, routed it and sanded it down with 600 grit...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

What I learned today.

Apparently I would not compromise structure by drilling holes in the cabinet above the wardrobe ( the material is 1/8" oak). It's the cabinets above the sink in the 17B...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

The reference to Mac-Tac was my attempt at humour. It was ( or maybe is ) used as cupboard liner or a cheap surface cover. It didn't stick very well and left residue, like me.

There are various...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

My buddy Keath came over this afternoon and we explored the alternatives.

I've settled on mounting the instruments in a piece of 1x4 oak. The board will be 9 1/4 inches wide, which is the minimum...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

These are held in place by friction. They have a plastic, ribbed ring around them. That's why I would need a piece of backing board because the cabinet material is too thin to adequately hold them....

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

I've got a piece of 1 x 4 red oak ( two feet long for $9 ). Might make sense to drill that and hang them on that from the cupboard above the wardrobe.
Drilling into the cupboard, as I would have to...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

I'm still pondering. Pic shows where I would really like to mount the instruments. Placing them in the cupboard door subjects them to being jarred. I'd glue a piece of common 1x4 inside the cupboard...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Taking pix is my job ( at least until Canwest / Global declares bankruptcy ).

Anyway, looking at the pic, I figure I should have got the instruments with the stainless steel bezel to better match...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

I was afraid the tape would fail so I didn't spend a lot of time working on spacing. I'll work on that when I have the door off and can easily move them about. I was also thinking about putting them...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Guy at woodworking shop said he'd drill the holes for $20. He has a hole saw and drill press. I think I'll install them in the cupboard door above the fridge ( we went with 5cu. ft. fridge and...

Thanks guys. I may take you up on the offer, if I can't find a shop here to do it for a reasonable price.

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

Because the proper saw bit will run me $30 and because my drill press is a flimsy device that you attach your drill to, and because my drills are too small to accept the shank on the bit anyway, I've...

Re: Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

A life of regrets....

Before I can do anything stupid, I have to take the hydrometer back and exchange it. I corrected the reading on the thermometer and made a slight adjustment on the barometer,...

Creating more problems / installing weather instruments

I picked up a set of weather instruments at Lee Valley Tools today. Set consists of a thermometer, barometer and hydrometer. Each is round, 2 7/8" across with a brass bezel. Look great ( $36 for the...
