Or drill holes (yes holes) near the corners of the box and install 4 eye bolts and connect the top end of the turn buckle to the box. You could then thread a narrow cable lock through 2 of the bolts...

Not sure how much room you need to get the tire off with the box on - but you could try a receiver extension and get some distance that way. Would take some weight off the tongue though and increase...
