Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Hello all Escapees! We recently bought an Escape and are anxiously planning a trip out to pick up in May. We can hardly wait for the time to come. We were just wondering what campground in Chilliwack did others stay at when they picked up their Escape. This has been a great forum for us in making the decision to buy sight unseen. Thanks for the wealth of information provided by you all.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
You might want to try this camp ground, we used to go here all the time.
Its at Harrison which is not to far from chilliwack.

I bet Reace and Tammy will have some good ideas too.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
There were two campgrounds close into Chilliwack. Tammy booked us into Cottonwood RV meadows. She said, "They are right near the highway and there is a Safeway just up the road from them and TradeMasters is directly across the highway (where our hitch is being installed)". This will give us a chance to "check things out" before we leave the fold and head back to Virginia (a Sunday drive away : - ))

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Opps! I forgot to include the web site for the campground. http://www.cottonwoodrvpark.com/
Looks like a great location, just wish we could stay longer : - (

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Not a campground, but about 25 minutes from Chilliwack is Fraserway RV. They have a huge new showroom with parts and accessories, should you need to pick up anything at the last minute. It's in Abbotsford just off the freeway.
They have a web site. Just Google.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Hello all.
Thanks for all the suggestions for both camping and shopping. We definitely will be ready to settle in for a night or two after a long drive and are really looking forward to finding some great camp spots on the way home. We figured Tammy & Reace could make a suggestion but after all the numerous emails from us already, we thought we'd turn to you guys instead. This forum is certainly a great source of information; especially for a "Escape" newbie. (Making the upgrade from '76 13' Boler to '08 17' Escape)
Thanks again.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
That looks like a really nice RV Park. However, don't we have to take possession of our trailer in the U.S. if we're not Canadian? If that's the case, it may not be practical to cross the border again and camp in B.C.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
From what I have gathered, the general procedure is to look everything over at the factory;pay any balance due;(if any);then camp nearby for at least overnight to be sure all systems are go. For example the H2O, toilet, shower, along those lines. I'm surmising that most things are checked before hand. The sewer system I'm not sure about. Another question to ask! Then subsequent to that, the trailer is brought to the border and there's a paperwork party and off you go!
Thanks for giving me another question to ask!

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Since we live in Chilliwack we've never looked into camping here.... our first night in our Escape was in Osoyoos. I think the idea to stay close by is so you can have Rease come by in the morning and show you again how to put the awning in, or some other "challenge." The excitement of picking up a new trailer can make it difficult to remember every little detail :-)

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Of course, those of us who are waiting have looked at the webpages with every detail at least 50-75 times, and gone through the instructional video, starring Tammy, at least 50 times!!!!! We have placed a "glug" of toilet bowl cleaner, in our dreams, many times! But, you're probably right, when we ACTUALLY get there, the stars in our eyes may overtake our ability to comprehend : - )

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Just wondering has anyone stayed at Camperland just up the Hwy from Escape
and if so how was it, Tammy mentioned it to us and we decided to try it.
You get 2 nights for $29.95, the catch is you have to listen to a
little sales speech they have. But the place sure looks nice.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Once again, some great info here from the experienced hands. Even though we're three months out from picking up our 19', we're starting to think about the trip, and this thread is very useful in that regard. We do intend to take our trailer back into Canada after delivery and spend some time there -- what a great opportunity to see that area.

I know when we go to pick up our 5.0 (ordering this week for Oct1 pickup) we won't remember anything we are told so from another forum suggestion "bring a video camera and film the instructions given to review on your trip home or later'. so when we go to pick up ours, I will be filming every word they say so we can go over and over and over the instructions.
MY fear right now is backing up and parking our 5.0. It has been years since we backed up a trailer and even then we weren't great. Does Reace give any instructions on backing up?

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Under Documents & Helpful Stuff on this site you will find an instructional video that I shot. I made two trips to Chilliwack and we did two shoots, each about 3 hrs. long, to make a 30 min. video.
Originally I just intended to shoot video when I was picking up my trailer, but I found that I couldn't shoot it properly and while shooting video, I wasn't listening and watching as closely as I should.
My advice would be to just pay close attention. I believe Escape includes the video on DVD when you pick up your trailer, but you can look at it anytime on this site.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
Hi: Pioneer... Go ahead ask me questions. Backing up a 5.0 is easier than a straight trailer!!! They react slightly slower than a 13'er or 17'er...but then at my age slightly slower is GOOD!!! My first nite out with the new rig was priceless. I am trying to back in between two trees and all of a sudden no go. Solution push harder on the gas...still won't budge. I hop out of the truck yelling at my GPS "Am I up against the tree". Just as she yells back NO!!! I find a piece of wire in the box of the truck with a piece of plastic attached. I pick it up when it dawns on me it's the breakaway switch...so the trailer brakes are locked on. No wonder it won't move!!! So ends lesson # 1.

Re: Campgrounds in Chilliwack?
We stayed at Camperland.. When we picked it up we got a 3 night stay there.. free.. you just had to go through their 20min presentation on camperland timeshare.. Ours was about 5 min since the guy knew we we're not interested being from the US..
The grounds are great.. very nicely laid out and had a trail that went up to a waterfall in the back of the mountain.. I think if you had kids it's great place to hang out as they had a waterslide park attached to the campground..

Great suggestion. I was actually going to pay alot of attention while taping. I am going to just tape the audio part of it, but since I dont have a tape machine, I will just leave to cap on and tape the audio. If there is a particular part I am not clear with, then I will take the cap off and film. At our age, instant recall isnt there anymore. I can remember things when I was 4 but not yesterday. Thank goodness for dvds and portable computers.
We will be spending 3 weeks on the way home and stopping at alot of national parks and state parks. We will go thru Washington, Oregon, N California, Nev, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico etc to get back to Georgia. Total planned trip 4 weeks.
We want to get to Yosemite while we are that far west. Any suggestions on where to camp in October there?

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday, and alaying all your fears. The trip home sounds GREAT! I wished our trip home was 6 weeks!
