5.0TA 1st Gen door question

We love our 2014 5.0TA. I’ve asked in another thread about weather stripping but we have another question/issue. Our door is the more rounded molded one without the built in screen door. It sits with uneven openings/gaps at the top and bottom. It’s almost like the top half was pushed IN toward the interior and the bottom was pulled out. There is a gap at the bottom big enough to let daylight through. If you look down the left/handle side of the door you can kind of see that the top portion actually tilts inwards past the camper body and the bottom sticks out a bit past the camper body. Is this normal? If not, any ideas how to even it up a bit so we don’t have openings? I know extra foam can be added under the weather stripping. Just curious from others if this is by design….

Thanks!!

I have a 2013 21 - which is the same as the 5TA from the doorway to the rear bumper. It looks like your door is riding maybe 1/4 inch lower than it should as the door stripes and bulges don't quite line up with the body features. I don't recall if there is any vertical adjustment possible with the factory hinges as I replaced mine long ago with stainless steel ones.

Might be worth locking the door, then pull one of the hinges to see if there is anything that can be done with them, or if you would need to turn their holes into slots to allow you some vertical movement on the body. Maybe an 1/8th inch on each hinge leaf would fix it.

However, check how much room you have available on the door lock side first. If the lock bolts are at the bottom of the strikes, you may be able to raise the door after all.

We ended up installing our back up set of stainless steel hinges last year when we had a gap at the bottom of the door. The new hinges took care of it.

Don’t know if the original hinges develop play over time. When I inspected them they didn’t look any different from the new ones. So I ended up keeping the old hinges as backups.

Edit: You might want to have someone inside the trailer and loosen the trailer side hinge screws readjust the door and retighten the screws. Just a thought, since the old hinges didn’t look different from the new one. Whatever I did fixed the gap.

I like bikes!
