Propane and CO Detector Expiration
On a recent trip we were awakened during the night to the shrieking propane and CO alarm, not once but twice. Apparently this is common as the units age. Based on where it is located on the 19, I had never given it a close look, nary a test either. The friendly green light always gave me a false sense of confidence.
The morning after, I crouched down and removed the unit from the wall with the two screws, easily done. My surprise was the “Replace By” date had passed. Further examination of the back showed a born on date of July 2009 and expiration date of December 2011. Not a long life.
I see other postings of faulty units, and noise emitting problems but not routine replacement. How many of you have noticed the date and done a replacement?
I ordered the same unit from a seller on eBay, he only had the black model in stock. Big deal. He assured me they were built in 2012. Cost was $67 including shipping. Replacement looks like it will take all of five minutes, there is even a video on how to do it.
