Alf you don't have to go as far as WI, just come to IL for the Mississippi rally, there's still room.

You must be referring to our PM forgetting to mention Alberta when he spoke. For those who don't know he listed all the provinces and territories EXCEPT Alberta.

Yes! Apparently July is officially either F150 month, or Escape 19 month, or both.

John, I don't think anyone has posted a photo for you yet, so here's one. This is the one on the left end (grey thing in the center). A similar contraption is on the other end. Instructions for adjustments are in the Owner's/Operator's Manual. Reace simply made sure all bolts were present and accounted for (7 total per bracket?) and then snugged them all down with a couple different sized Allen wrenches (I don't remember the sizes or if they were SAE or metric).

Oh, Alberta, Alberta, where art thou?

Guessing the PM will be talking a lot about Alberta in the coming days. And that a lot of invitations from Alberta will be going out so as to make the point that it exists.

This is not the sewer stink thread but the already out of control split hose thread. Well, tell the PM that Escapes are made right next door to Alberta.

Reace also added the screw you can see at the left, next to the grey block. He said that it keeps the assembly from migrating outward.

I'm a fan of simplicity and robust design, and our old style awning just works, even in rain and wind. But, the clean look of the new ones with no arms does look sharp.

All said, if form follows function, I prefer the old one. And should the warranty be out and it needs replacing, a few hundred bucks instead of thousands. From what I've seen so far with the new one, including failure to retract, damage from retraction and pooling of water, my personal opinion is confirmed.

I am out camping now (actually just sat down at the fire) so can't check pricing, but the new awnings are less than double the old, I believe. Not sure what parts are like pricewise though. The piling of water is the only problem I have encountered, but I see a few easy solutions for that. It would have been nice to not need to find one, but it is what it is, and it sure would be tough to convince Lisa to ever go back, and I like it too regardless of its one weakness, given the are so many pluses. It is another love the one you're with situations, methinks.

I see both sides of the awning "debate" now that we own the new one. The old one was simple and easy, but we tend to use the new one even more. In anything more than a moderate wind we didn't use the old one, but have with the new one and have had it retract from over us when sudden gusts came up at the rally. I like that the new one can be extended to any length up to full. But as Robert says, if the new one goes bad after the warranty period it will be expensive.

Will cross that bridge when we get to it. In the meantime, we will enjoy it.

Jim, I would like your thoughts on the pooling issue.

You can have insurance that covers the awning but would have to pay attention to the deductible.

Good point. Everything can be insured. Of course, you'd have to weigh the cost of the premium/deductible against the chance that you'd need to file a claim. Insurance companies have it down to a science, and the fact that they make a profit proves that this isn't their first rodeo.

Reminds me of these telemarketing calls and junk mail I was getting a flood of recently for a "home warranty". Not the homeowners insurance, but all the stuff inside, like the TV, the washer, dryer, AC, etc. Practically every consumer study I've read on the subject suggests they are a waste of money for most people.

Hopefully, the new awnings prove capable for the long haul, so it's a moot point.

Of that I am fairly certain. I'd be touting their coolness right now if I had one.

Dale (and Eric):

Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it, and will check mine this week.

Reace finished our trailer tonight (#38). With that he has finished the U.S. portion of his journey. We thoroughly enjoyed his company and loved hearing a recap of his adventures of the last 3+ weeks. We'd be remiss if we only said "Thank You" to Reace because Tammy deserves a huge "Thanks" for not only giving him up to us for almost a month, but also for coordinating his travels. Way to go ETI - we all appreciate you! Thanks!
