Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
The original sewer hose for my trailer broke. I was unpleasantly surprised to find that a standard replacement hose will not fit into the tube. All the solutions offered in this thread are nifty but unfortunately I'm on the road plus I'm not very handy. The situation kind of sucks.

I'm curious, right next to your mount is a solid looking bolt, could you have used that to secure the plate and not drilled any additional holes? Did you look at that?

Hi: cpaharley2008... I certainly would have used that bolt to secure a bracket for the tube. It's one of the several that hold the body on the frame. Easy access to the bolt head from above in the storage bin but someones gotta be at both ends of it or use a locknut from below!!! Alf

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
The problem is to fit the slinky hose fitting in a standard 4" pipe a bit of the lugs need to be shaved down (at least mine were) which weakens the connector. That is why I switched to a square fence post. While you need to come up with some way to hold the ends on the post, it is large enough that even a heavy duty hose with a 90° end fitting will fit. It does add some weight, but any plastic pipe I could find pipe larger than 4" is even heavier.

Kalyson, this probably can't help you right now but just in case, there is an App called "Camp & RV" that will tell you every kind of business nearby with RV items such as supplies, truck stops, RV repair.

Thanks for the tip! We called all sorts of places and they are jammed due to the Memorial Day weekend coming up. We figured out our own solution which we will post shortly.

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
Paul S. -- Would you please provide the dimensions of those aluminum plates you used to mount the larger sewer hose tube? I think I will do the same thing. The only worry I have is the corrosion action betrween the aluminum and the steel frame. Dis-similar metals tend to corrode more quickly when in contact with each other. Maybe some grease on the bolts would help?

Sorry for the late reply. Away camping!!!!!
I could have used that bolt although it does secure the shell to the frame. I decided against it for a couple of reasons. I wanted the aluminum brackets to be as far forward as possible and to be only slightly wider then the plastic base on the tube. The frame bolt also had pulled the bottom surface of the frame up, or in slightly, so if I wanted this bolt to be tight again I was concerned that it would deform the aluminum bracket enough to make it look kinda crappy!
Cheers,
Paul S.

Hi Doug,
The dimensions are 1/8" aluminum plate that was sheared at 6-1/2" wide. The side that runs parallel to the tube is 8-3/4" with a 2-1/2" vertical leg. I intentionally did not have the aluminum bent at a sharp 90 deg. It can crack or at least become weakened. The inside radius of the bracket almost matches the radius on the frame corners. You are correct about the galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals and I did liberally coat the surface of the bracket with water proof grease where it contact's the frame. I also limited the attachment points to three to minimize the number of holes into the frame. The bolts also have a liberal amount of anti-sieze compound on them. (I put that %#&$ on everything!!!) The frame is also painted so it shouldn't be an issue. As a bonus I found that the top surface of the aluminum bracket was the perfect size and had enough clearance above to mount the remote sensor for our thermometer inside a water proof container. It's out of the rain and sun and is very secure.
Cheers,
Paul S.

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
I forgot to add that the the length of the aluminum brackets are based on the 64" hose carrier that Camping World sells. I installed the slightly shorter carrier on the 17' Escape we used to have and it worked great 3 years.

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
But wait there's more.........!!!
The length of the brackets is based on an inside frame width of 48". I assume, always a dangerous thing to do, that the frames are assembled on a jig so they should be consistant but you never know.
Cheers,
Paul S.

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
Paul S. -- Thanks for that information but I still have a question. In your original post regarding the mod, you said that you had the aluminum plate "drilled and tapped for 4/20 bolts". This has me a bit confused. Why would you tap the plate and not the holes in the frame? (I'm probably not reading this correctly).

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
Has anyone checked to see if the "proper" container will fit in between the spare tire holder and the rear trailer wall on the 19? That's where it was mounted on our 2006 17 and it fit perfectly. Just curious.

The drilling and tapping is only into the frame. The bolts pass cleanly through the aluminum plate.

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
A couple of stainless pipe straps around the rear bumper, will hold the tube under the rear bumper, and no modifications are required.
Works graet on our 19 now.

Yes, but the 17'-B with double 6 V batteries has no room on top of the frame.

Re: Stinky Slinky Holding Tube on 2012 17B
Paul S.------How were you able to tap the bolt holes in the frame to hold the alumninum plates for the new slinky holding tube? I was under our trailer today and I won't be able to turn the tap wrench for a full circle since it will hit the trailer body. Do you have a special tool, like some sort of ratchett, that will do the job?

Hi Doug, I do have a ratcheting tap holder. It's the only way to cut the threads and maintain your sanity!!!
