Yikes! It's been awhile since I looked at my private messages. Sorry about that. I'm probably a little late in responding, but in case you're still waiting for some answers, here goes...

The towing experience with the 2012 Touareg TDI was amazing. Hardly knew the trailer was back there. The torque was fantastic, the trailer hardly slowed our acceleration at all. Even going up mountain passes we could easily maintain our speed. Vastly superior to our current Highlander. No comparison.

We used the Anderson Weight Distribution Hitch. It worked great and I'm still very happy with the hitch. It's tough to get a proper answer on whether or not to use a WDH with the Touareg. The manual says no because of the air suspension. On VW forums everyone has a different opinion. We used it and didn't notice any adverse affects over maybe 20,000 miles of towing.

As for other needs for towing, I think you've got it all. I thought the 7 way connector was standard on the Touareg so I'm somewhat surprised you had to have it added, but maybe that's just a Canadian thing.

Hello, my name is Wayne in TN. We are receiving our 21NE from Escape in late Sept and we just purchased a 2012 Touareg TDI for our TV. We ordered a Weight distribution anti sway Hitch from Escape for more stability since this will be our first ever towing experience. I am curious how your towing experience is/was with your Touareg. There is a receiver on the Touareg and we had Uhaul install the 7 way connector and a brake controller. Is there anything else I need to do to the vehicle itself to get it ready to tow? Do I need the WDH? Thanks for any help you may be able to share.
