Sometimes more than twigs. :) And I bury it in the sand and put rocks around it sometimes. Nope, never been an issue.

If we're in an area where campfires aren't permitted but propane fire pits...

We split the difference. Since we travel through a lot of jurisdictions carrying firewood is a nuisance.

We have a propane unit but lets face it, the flames are pretty boring. So I supplement it...

That's what I do, run the skill saw along beside...

That's what I do, run the skill saw along beside the 3 frame pieces and use the slats. Since the slats are then just wood I do use them also.

There are some places that are posted prohibiting the burning of pallets in campfires. The reason is that some folks include the nails with the wood and that's no longer acceptable.

I'm not that certain that, in some cases, smoke...

I'm not that certain that, in some cases, smoke could still enter the trailer even with the windows closed. With a breeze blowing toward the trailer I'm pretty sure that some smoke would enter.
