Yes, one wire needs to run from the switch (electric) on the panel to the hot water heater. I have the wire shown in red in the wiring diagram.

The model SW6DEL comes with the relay for remote on/off. Warranty is not a problem. Nether is the installation of a SW6DEL a code issue as the electric remote switch is 12v same as the propane...

I purchased one of these to replace the Escape supplied panel. One extra wire run down to a Suburban Water Heater Relay 232948 and I don't have to fool with going outside to shut off the electric...
