I see you also installed 2 cut off valves which is good in the event of leaks you can isolate the line, similar to the toilet shut off valve option.

Yes, you would have to connect to drain, but less chance of liquid left in the lines if using compressed air and gravity, vs compressed air alone.

If I were installing one, I'd plumb it from above. That way when winterizing, gravity would empty the supply lines when pressure is released and before adding antifreeze or blowing out the lines.
