Although it is not needed, I like to tow with the Andersen and my truck, particularly on longer out of state trips, for the reasons mentioned. With the FJ it is definitely needed.

Let me understand this, the original OEM would not allow WDH so you had an aftermarket hitch installation to allow WDH set up? What does the manual for the vehicle specify?

An Escape will outlast a lot of tow vehicles, that said a 10 year old used Subaru may not be you best choice. Even an Escape 17 with a gross weight rating of 3500# would exceed any Subaru's capacity...

Does your manual specify premium gas or is that your choice? My Ram specifies mid range and have wondered if the xtra octane may improve my mpg?
