I use the low-point drain and then pump RV anti-freeze through the city water inlet. It's reassuring to then open the low-point a bit and see pink.

At least with the fresh water you can flush with a hose in the inlet and open the drain.
For the hot water tank, I think there is a small 'wand' you can get and insert in the hole for the anode....

Nope. Those are two different drains. At some point ETI dropped the low point drain ( my recollection from posts ).
I have both the fresh water drain and low point drain on my 2009.
