A 550 pound tongue weight limit is implied by the maximum trailer weight rating (5000 pounds) and Toyota's direction (given for most if not all models) to always use 10(±1) % tongue weight (stated as 9% to 11%).
The hitch itself may also have a rating sticker.
Since Escapes tend to tongue weight a little higher than 10% (both empty and loaded), assuming that the 550 pound value is effectively a limit, the maximum trailer weight is a bit lower. For instance, if 550 pounds is 12% of the trailer weight, then the trailer weighs 4583 pounds... more than 1600 pounds greater than the dry weight of a base Escape 19' (and more than 1300 pounds greater than the dry weight of a base Escape 21').
