Favorite COE campground locations...
Looking to camp more in COE areas and less in KOA and state parks. Trying together information of your favorite COE cg and why. In Pennsylvania, the best known is Raystown Lake COE with lake front campsites. Trying to gather a list by state to pursue....thanks for any input.

Last March we really enjoyed R. Shaefer Heard park in GA, about half way between Montgomery AL and Atlanta. It's on West Point Lake. Great paved site (although a steep hill down to pad - many other sites in park are level. We had a deck and steps down to a firepit with built in bench.

Agreed! Old Federal Campground on Lake Lanier, GA is a good one too.
We also like R. Shaefer Heard. Wish it wasn't on the other side of Atlanta.

Many are wonderful & very good deals, particularly for those with the senior pass. The biggest problem I have with them is it is getting harder & harder to get a site without reservations.

A good one between Albuquerque and Santa Fe is Cochiti Lake. A short drive to Kewa Pueblo gets you to the Railrunner station for a short train ride to either city.

Why the hesitation with reservations Jon? Seems to me a guaranteed spot is better than a hopeful spot?

7 points, outside Nashville. Very well kept up, good spacing, at least where I was.
Cochiti Lake, well kept, nice views, very quiet.
it's nice finding a COE close enough to a tourist spot. Can't beat the prices with the geezer pass.
Some of the ones we've stayed at in the east don't maintain their bathrooms. Nice enough sites but lousy maintenance.

I rarely know when I'm going to be where (except for rallies).

Orland Buttes near Orland CA. Beautiful in spring with lots of wild flowers on rolling hills. Nice quiet sites, miles of trails to wander and on a lake reservoir. We discovered it last April and vowed to return.

Jim, We really enjoyed Bulltown Campground, on Burnsville Lake, in West Virginia. It is centrally located about 10 miles off of Interstate 79. Large campground broken down into several loops, many with full hookup.

We stay in two COE parks when visiting family in TX, both of which I can give a thumbs up on. Live Oak Ridge in Belton TX was excellent. Very good location to hit the Chip n Joanna stuff in Waco Tx.
In Ft Worth we stay at Benbrook Lake. Very nice park and lake, especially since there are so few campgrounds in Dallas Ft Worth area.
They both honored Senior Parks Pass.

I have a very good publication on COE campgrounds.
"RV Camping in COE" All states COE are listed along with info and contacts. Latest publication is 2019. Up to date. Don't leave home without it!

A new DOD directive extends access for eligible veterans for Military Post/Base facilities. Effective 1 Jan 2020.
This includes campsites at the installation if they are available. Several ways to qualify for this. VA ID card with 'Service connected Disability' on card is one.
Check the VA websites for more info if desired.

I was excited to hear that from the VA however it’s only extended to Veterans with a disability.

Not only that, but if one is available anyone with a service connected disability will now also be allowed to shop at a base commissary or PX,

I rely on the opinions from the app RV Life (formerly RV Campground Reviews). The reviews tend to come from Class A travelers (who do not use campground bathroom and/or showers as frequently). But still one of the few sources of good opinions. Many of the COE campgrounds are reviewed.
Coupled with the app Allstays, to locate campgrounds and overnight parking, I have some decent tools to locate and evaluate.
