We to Nehalem Bay go almost every year. Good sites and nice long beach walks.

Cheapest price on booze that I have ever seen!! Have fun, Bob.

And then you can head North to Canada for the highest liquor prices you might ever see!
I want to take my sons to see the Spruce Goose while it is still in Oregon. My father worked at Hughes Aircraft after he was discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1946. He was fortunate enough to be present for the one and only flight of the plane in 1947. I took my boys to the Boeing plant in Seattle last year to see the B-17 they have on display there, as that is what their Grandpa flew in during the war. They still talk about that trip!

FYI, while you could set up camp in Nehalem (or thereabouts) and take a day trip to see the Spruce Goose, there is also a great campground about 20 miles Southwest of the museum, Champoeg State Park ... A bit of Oregon history and a good bike ride around the park, which borders on the Willamette River.

This really could be either side of the continent, as one could be talking the east coast of the Pacific Ocean, or the east coast of North America. This kinda covers both coasts, eh?
I have Brit friends that refer to the left side of the pond, meaning North America.
Like acronyms, these cute phrases most definitely can be confusing.

Speaking of "left coast", have a question for our Oregon neighbors. I've set up a short trip for May and have reservations at the following campgrounds (spending several days at each one): Beachside State Recreation; Harris Beach State Park; Champoeg State Heritage Area and Valley of the Rogue State Park. Did I miss any 'must see/camp' spots and/or did I overdo the driving distances. Any input would be appreciated as we haven't been camping in Oregon in years.

Following the (not universal) convention that north is up, with the whole continent of North America in view on a map (but nothing else), the Pacific coast is on the viewer's left... thus, the west coast of North America is the "Left Coast". A locally common expression, but not obvious, it is used due as a dual geographic and political reference.

By current political standards I believe both East and West could accurately be referred to as the "Left Coast".

Just to return to Nehalem Bay. October can be wet, but no problem finding a site.

Great picture Glen. Liz and I have appreciated all the posts on this thread. Liz just booked some time at Nehalem State Park in July.
The positive comments and pictures about Nehalem CG helped her pull the trigger and book today. I'm reading some Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews which mention lots of children which we expect in the summertime. The nearby town seems nice also.
Glen, I see you went to Nehalem in October. How was the drive down in October? Did you worry about snow (aren't there mountain passes between here and there). I'm looking forward to retirement and being able to go off season but wonder about winter driving.
Larry

No problem with weather or roads. We took two easy days heading down. No passes, but you do have to get through Seattle.

Should note that there is no view from the site itself to the ocean. Huge dune to climb over to get to the beach, but that's OK. And make a note of the escape route in the event of a tsunami ( it's signed ).

That fog adds a cool effect. This is calendar worthy photo.

Maybe calendar worthy if the two camp chairs were sitting straighter. Other than that not a bad picture.
