Temp tag in Colorado issued before pickup?

Happy Friday all
I just made my first attempt (unsuccessful) at getting a temp tag for our pick up trip later this month. I know alanmalk was successful when he picked up his 21, so I wondered if there were more CO folks that have also succeeded. I have read the other thread and I will revert to bringing the bill of sale and other docs if I can't get the tag prior to our trip.
The agent in downtown Denver followed the letter of the statute, even though the language allows for exceptions (see pic).
Anyway, CO folks, if you have any words of wisdom, I would appreciate any tips you can offer.
Thanks in advance.
Chuck

Hi Chuck - I called the Colorado DVM a few weeks ago and talked to a person I thought was competent and knowledgeable. She told me to just bring all my paperwork to the DVM and they could issue a temporary tag (she couldn't tell me how long it would be valid). She went on to say that the trailer could then be issued a permanent plate after a physical VIN inspection when the trailer is in Colorado. Your attachment seems to indicate that that may not have been correct.
I'm beginning to wonder if it would just be best to travel back to Colorado without any temporary tags. Chances are we wouldn't be pulled over, and even if we were, we would have all the paperwork from Tammy onboard with us.
I know of one other Colorado Escape buyer that got a 3 day temp tag from the state of Washington. My understanding is that such a tag is only valid in the state of issue and doesn't really help anyway if we're planning on taking more than three days to return from Chillliwack (more like three weeks!). Anyhow, I'll be interested to here if any other Coloradans "chime in" to this thread. I'd love to know how they handled the tag problem.
John

I live in Jackson County and our county clerk issued a temporary permit to me before I left for Chilliwack. I showed her all the paperwork of course. I wouldn't hesitate to haul one straight home without a permit as long as all the paperwork was handy. But it would be nice to have a permit if you were turning the trip home into an extended vacation.

We're planning on spending a day or two in the Seattle area prior to picking up. I might try to pick up a couple of three day permits there if they would start the first one on our pick up date. That would cover us for the rally and trip home. I hate to waste more time at the Denver DMV, as that is an exercise in frustration by itself, and based on the info they provided they are probably correct in denying my request. If we were coming straight home I wouldn't sweat it.

The picture you posted, "Vehicles purchased out of state", says "exceptions can be made".

I believe Sumas is in Whatcom County and the county seat is in Bellingham. Maybe it would be better to apply for a permit there rather than in the Seattle area.

As has been said time and again, permits in Washington are surely a waste of your money as far as returning to another state. They would have nothing to do with traveling in other states unless maybe you are a Washington resident. And they should tell you that at any office.

Hi Cathy,
Do you have a source or link to support the statement below? I have read the other threads and seen similar comments as well, but I have never seen anything definitive. I will call WA DMV and report back.
I will say that Colorado does look to the origin state (or state of first import) to issue the temp tag, so they in fact do recognize and honor it (see my pic above). I bought my Tundra in Kansas and drove it home with KS issued temp tags and continued to drive it in CO until I registered it some 3 weeks later.
My preference is to still get a CO issued temp tag, but that may not happen.

I obtained a temp permit from Boulder County using the paperwork from Tammy. No issues, other than having to pay the taxes to get the temp plate.

Of course, I never used it. It was rainy, sloppy, and I didn't think to bring a plastic bag. If I did it again, I'd just rely on the dated bill of sale to get the thing home.
