No specific info but I'm interested in your review. We are always interested in new areas close by (Houston). While there check out Mission Tejas State Park and Caddo Mounds State Historical Site. They are on the El Camino Real and it’s supposed to be a very interesting piece of Texas history.

Post Trip Report

Just got back from trip to Davy Crockett NF. Was unable to get into Neches Bluff campground, which had a washed out culvert. Instead went to the other campground in the NF, Ratcliff.

Setting is in an area with a lot of fairly large (2-3') loblolly pines and oaks. Sites are separated somewhat, but open across the entire park. Electricity to each site, with water 'available'. That means that you may have it at your site, but most have connections between sites, which may require a very long hose (or you can fill up when you arrive with little difficulty). No sewer connections, but there is a dump station. No rv spots near or with a view of the lake. Due to a lot of downed trees split firewood is presently now for free, but don't know how long it will last. It is very wet and hard to burn. Should dry out over the summer.

The area has sandy soil, so it drains well. Good thing, since we had a thunderstorm with an inch of rain. The sand is very fine and gets into everything. The largest problem we had was the bugs. Few mosquitos, but no-see-ums and biting flies everywhere. We still have welts.

Doubt we will return unless we have a screen room.
