Fuel prices

Went to town (Kingsville) this morning for the first time in a couple weeks and was pleasently surprised. Diesel was 3.89 where I usually go. Last time I filled up it was 4.49.

Other places?

$2.96 in Cedar Rapids yesterday for top tier regular with 10 percent smashed corn kernels in it.

3.99.9 for Diesel with soy beans added.

$3.59-$3.99. Paid $5.15 last time I filled up... that was back in October. Guess I'd better get to driving before the fuel goes bad in the tank.

Maybe we should revisit our decision about not growing soy beans at our farm.

Depends on the yield potential. Up here it’s a two crop rotation with corn beans corn bean etc.
However a few guys around us played the numbers last year, shot the anhydrous and went corn in corn and did ok. And it saved changing out the combine head. Course it’s more wear on one head but oh well, John Deere workers kids need shoes too. Our farm lease farmer was all corn, except for some alfalfa, which kind of screws up early black powder deer hunting.

I have a great soy bean joke. Too long for posting and has visuals.

Our plan for next year is 60% cotton an 40% milo. Cotton has been very profitable the previous 3 yrs. . Not so much this year. Milo price is more stable. Neither is heat sensitive and don't need a lot of water. It's all a crap shoot.

Don't fet me started on John Deere. Great equip and 1st tier service but won't assign/sell there maint software for their new equip. A $1K parts job in our shop turns into a $7k job at their place. Flatbed to their shop and their labor prices.

Back in the early 70’s we used to hunt a milo field that the farmer left for wildlife. I’ve never seen so many pheasants in a little field as we encountered there. They would run ahead, see the end of the row coming up and turns and run across the rows and back at us about 10 rows over. Then they would flush behind the walkers. A good German Shorthaired Bulldozer helped a lot.
Old Buck never lied to me.

Takes me back. Quail all over the farm. We don't allow hunting anymore because of liability. I don't care how many dogs we had 'on point' , when the birds took off, it scared the hell out of me.

How do they know to thunder off at the same instant?

In Kingsville this morning and diesel was 3.01, Reg 2.82. Can't remember the two being so close in price. I don't remember diesel being below 3.00. Hope it keeps falling.

Other places?

I filled up with diesel for $5.39/gal last night here in San Jose. I’ve seen much better prices recently but not yet at the two places close to home. It’s probably the second tank of fuel I’ve bought this year.
