Moved to Encinitas in 1976 to attend SDSU and my first residence was San Elijo SP for a few days while hunting for a domicile in Leucadia. My how things change. Went to & through TJ a few times and it was bad back then! You couldn't pay me enough to deal with that scene including the return line back to the USA.

Edit: did however love going to the Belly Up in Solana Beach to see Les Dudek playing great tune "Going to Mexico".

Another new owner: The Kings are also there in Lone Pine somewhere with their new 21. I only know this because they posted on the Escape Facebook page and the men share the same name. I pick up my new 21 next week. Also, I hiked the John Muir Trail back in 2003. When I did that, we came out at Lone Pine after submitting Mt. Whitney.

I did The JMT in 2003 also. August 1-14, and finished at the Whitney Portal. Best cheeseburger and 6-pack in my life

That's beautiful- great to see some snow! Was there last week of October and there was no snow. BTW- Mt. Langely is centered; Whitney is on the right. Lots of folks think Langely is Whitney.

Going to be in upper 70's through Thanksgiving- don't miss the Western Movie Museum; a lot of the old stuff we grew up with was filmed out there. Saw a Ram truck commercial being filmed there last visit.

Went to an early Thanksgiving in Lawton, OK. While down there I camped for 4 days at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Very good weather and a lot of Turkeys in the campground.

Hi:SFDavis... I really dislike it when there are a lot of "Turkeys" in the campground. Specially after they have a few beers and sit around the campfire and start to sing!!! Alf

Thanksgiving weekend camping on the Idaho side of Hells Canyon. Looking over the Snake River/Brownlee Reservoir to the hills across river, which are Oregon. Beautiful and peaceful getaway.

Lovely spot, south shore of Bastrop Lake. Lots of ducks quacking away.

I did a lot of training at Camp Swift through the years not too far from Lake Bastrop. Let me know how it is for camping. We are gradually checking out state parks and other campgrounds within a 3-4 hour drive from Houston. We visited McKinney Falls SP near Austin last month and got our “fix” at the original Chuys.

It's nice here John. The park is operated by the LCRA, which is the same outfit that runs Matagorda Bay Nature Park on the gulf coast. In fact, LCRA runs several parks along the Lower Colorado, from the Hill Country to the gulf. Their parks are well run with good facilities, and about the same price or slightly less than the State Parks.

This particular park was not affected by the fire like Bastrop State Park was. That park was essentially destroyed, and although they are working to recover, without the loblolly pines, it just isn't the same.

Great fishing here by all accounts as well. I picked the right time because there are very few campers and it is very quiet.

Thanks! Good to know. LCRA operates a number of parks along the Colorado. We will check it out. We have Goliad SP on the list for January provided the weather cooperates. Embarrassed to say as a Texan but I have never been to Goliad and I am looking forward to it.

Yes, Goliad and the Alamo are kind of prerequisites. Alot of Texans don't know that more Texians were killed in the Goliad massacre than at the battle of the Alamo - although instead of dying in battle they were just lined up and shot.

This Texan does. [emoji4]. I’m a bit of a history buff. Even fewer Texans have heard of the “Runaway Scrape”. Just never made it to Goliad. Looking forward to it in January. Thanks.
