Hi: SeldomSeen... Another plus for the 5.0 is the standard electric independent landing gear. The front feet can be used to some degree to finish off the leveling process again with out bending or hand cranking and for overnight quick stops on level ground you don't even need to unhook.

Who knew this could be such a difficult... but fun decision? Leaning right now towards the 19, primarily because of its width, and the fact I get to use the truck for bicycles, and other gear. But by the this afternoon I'll probably change my mind again.

Hi: SeldomSeen... I agree. When we bought our Escape Hatch there were only two choices. 17'er and 5.0 5th. The lines have become fuzzier since then. 19, 5.0, 17, 15 and soon the 21's. Who'd a thought the little company could do such a special job of building trailers? I'm a believer!!! Alf

The difference in price between the two units is 3 grand...before options. Of course those prices are for "New" units. I don't think I've seen many or any used 5.0 go on the market but from time to time the 19s do. Buying used often means having to travel but then isn't that what its all about. The savings in any case does buy options. Right now, I believe, is a pretty nice sounding 19er in Nevada.

Yeah. That 19 in Reno is very nice. As I tried to figure out how I could get out there to see it...and then, well..it just got very complicated!

Reno is actually 210 miles closer to you.... with no borders, customs paperwork, money exchange or any of the options listed.
Throw 10 bucks in a slot machine once you get to Reno and you just might end up with a free 19er!!

19 vs 5.0 is a tough decision. Bottom line, with the 5.0, you loose the use of the pickup bed.We liked the floor plan of 5.0, and towing would be very easy.
We decided on the 19 to keep the pickup bed available for taking other camping gear. We have found that different destinations and trip durations determine what extra gear to take.
The most important concern with the 19' is getting the trailer level when towing. I had to use a 2" drop down hitch with a 1" raised ball. Tried towing with the hitch turned up, and the trailer was too high on the front. I tow with a 2005 Tacoma and do not use WDH. I find this combination tows very well. I also use 1 level of boost on the trailer brakes to keep every thing straight during braking.
Hope this can help with your decision. Happy Travels.

I think I have to make two trips to Reno. One flight, to lock up the purchase, then another when I actually have time to drive out and tow it home.
I towed a popup for 20 years but no nothing about trailer brakes. We will be pulling with an F-150.

Still, I think that 19 is a great deal, especially if you are looking for all the features and options they have added. Not really much to see, just to decide whether you like the deal, or not.

We like the north/south bed in the loft of the 5.0 as well as the advantages of the 5th wheel hitch. There is still room in the pickup bed for a couple of storage totes and can't imagine needing more stuff. If we went camping with canoes or kayaks we would have chosen the 19. We have a 5.0 reserved for July...

Hi: SeldomSeen... Biggest single factor with the 19'er. is making sure the trailer is towing level. That puts even weight on both axles and all 4 tires.
A good hitch shop can supply all the necessary stuff including a brake controller. Alf p.s. It will cost more at the toll booths!!!

When we visited the factory and looked at both the 5.0 and the 19', it didn't take us long to decide we didn't like the feel of the 5.0. It seems darker and more crowded inside than the 19' felt.

Escape seems to have something for everyone that is interested in a smaller, light weight trailer. Clean exterior lines, and very efficent floor plan. There was a time, say 35 years ago when I may have picked the 17. The 19 is more open, because of that extra 4". One thing for sure is they are all far better than anything I saw at the recent Northeast Ohio RV show.

Interesting that nobody has suggested comparing the time you're using the TV as a "trailer hauler" vs. an "everyday hauler." We're 4 years from retirement so my short-bed Frontier will (sadly) be spending more time going back and forth from Home Depot and Lowe's than it will be dragging our 19' around. The 5.0 is a great layout (we did the side-by-side comparison at the 'factory') but in the end, I can't dedicate my PU to pulling the 5.0. I'm just happy that we discovered this product line! There's no wrong choices so not to worry.

This has been discussed lots over the years, and was prime consideration for us, not only in the car we bought, but in the trailer as well. I did like a lot of things about the 5.0, but opted for the 19 partially because of layout and other things, but primarily because I wanted an SUV for everyday use, and to use while camping with the trailer set up.
