Clams at Birch Bay State Park, Washington

Planning our first night in 'Velocity'. We're thinking about staying at Birch Bay State Park near Bellingham, primarily for a quick return to Chilliwack if need be.

But, speaking of clams...
I understand that clams are a favorite treat for folks along the coast. I was wondering if someone knew of a restaurant in the vicinity where we could get good fried clams? Preferably at an establishment which might be classified as a "clam shack", as opposed to a fancy restaurant where we would be expected to dress in our yachting blues.

Clam lovers out there?

Thanks,
Alan

Sorry Alan- this thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I will say we loved the campground, however there is not much around- it's somewhat isolated. In looking at Trip Advisor I saw what we seemed to notice cruising the area- not much to get inspired with.

Doesn't fit your criteria since it's a high end seafood restaurant but it's all I have to offer. We drove down from Vancouver about 20-30 years ago because it was the hot place to dine.
No clams on the menu. In fact it seems mussels have replaced clams on almost all menus.
Anyway: The Oyster Bar on Chuckanut Drive

There are several seafood restaurants a short drive from Birch Bay in downtown Bellingham and in the interesting Fairhaven area:

Best Bellingham Seafood Restaurants

Glenn's mention of Chuckanut Drive reminded me how nice it would be to take that road if you are eventually heading south, and catch up with I-5 after a nice drive near the ocean.

You're right - not a single clam on the menu. What is this world coming to ?
(But I will have to admit, Susannah is a mussel fan and won't get closer to a clam than a bowl of chowder.)

Oh, well. Perhaps we'll have to try that awful sounding mixture of cheese curds and soggy french fries that I keep hearing about.

Until Karen chips in, I found CJ's for you.

The higher rated "shores" (on yelp) has a closed website, so ....

Vonna's doesn't have clams.

Didn't look into Bellingham etc choices.

How about clam steamers at D'anna's?

If you go south a little further along the coast (1 hour) into La Conner there's a few restaurants along the waterfront offering a variety of seafood. Tulip festival in La Conner is in April and you might get the tail end of the big bloom.
