Looking good. Why the paper taped over the floor? Is the concrete a finished surface in some areas?

The builder likes to do that to cut down on dust and cleanup when they do the drywall, etc.

One trade name is Ram Board. It not only helps prevent abrasive damage to a new floor but also protects against things like paint spills. New home owners are quite fussy folks. They want their new pride and joy still looking new when they move in. Imagine that.

That's just slang for "punch list". Basically they marked up and did corrections 5 times. It would be novel to do it right the first time, but these framers today, don't get me started. You know that whole "measure twice, cut once" and "look at the plans first" stuff? Goes right past them. Either that or they just don't care. Never made sense to me. They're not saving work but creating more, since they have to go back and correct things anyway.

And I'm one of the pickier ones I'll bet. Hey, the way I look at it, it's my last house, and it's costing me a boatload. They by God better do it right.

I did all the Plumbing and Electrical for my sisters new house. So by the time I got there the framers had come and gone. The doors seemed small to me so I asked to see the plans. The framers had framed all the doors to the finished dimensions. So where it called for a 36" wide door, that is what the rough-in framing was. My poor sister and BIL are landscapers. They have no experience with this sort of thing. I told them they better get the framers back to fix it or they were never going to fit their appliances in the kitchen!! SMH

Your house is looking great by the way. Thanks for sharing the picts.

I'd be shaking my head too Arnie. One thing I'll say about my builder - the job eventually gets done right. Even though, he often has to call them back in several times for that to happen.

I recall a discussion I had with the builder of our first house, many years ago shortly after we were married. It was nothing special, about 1300 SF on a tiny lot, a tract house, only cost 75K, but it was ours. The peninsula that divided the kitchen from the breakfast area was supposed to turn 45 degrees, then another 45. Looking at the floor tile you could instantly tell that the second angle was more like 55 degrees. I told him he had to fix it and he argued with me. Said he'd have to layout the base cabinets again, and replace the countertop as well. We went round and round like this until I told him something along the lines of "this house is a small symbol of your work. It's your signature. It's a statement of whether you're a craftsman or a hack. How would you like this to be your signature, the one thing I can tell other people about you?" He agreed to fix it. The fact that the conversation even had to take place still boggles me.

Beautiful view, looks to be a great deck for drinking beer on.

Since I built my house, from pouring the concrete, doing the plumbing and electrical, the only fool I can blame for mistakes around here is me....

Been down that path also from renting an excavator and digging the excavation to the framing and electrical and plumbing etc. All these years later everything still works. Must have got lucky. Though every once in a while I've opened something up and said, "Ron, you should have better than that."

Well, you learned some things and got better over time. I'm sure if I went back and looked at some of the networking jobs I did 20 years ago, I'd be asking myself what I was thinking.

That will go fast, Robert. Bet you are really getting amped up to get in and enjoy that back patio. Are you putting some ceiling fans across the patio?

Yep. It's wired for 3, and also prewired for outdoor audio.
