2017 Escape 17B - Heat/Furnace ???

We are in Tennessee camping, where last night the Temp. went down to 38*F .

We tried using the Thermostat to put on heat, but no go, Furnace would come for a minute but shut off by itself, till we turned on our Gas.

After spending an hour freezing, we were warm & toasty.

My question - Does Furnace works only on Gas & not the electric ? Is there a switch to make it work on electric ??

Thanks & regards

Yes, propane for heat only. 12V required only to run the fan.

Many people will carry a small plug in electric heater for when they have hook ups.

You may be confused with the hot water heater which will run on propane or electric (or even both simultaneously) if you ordered the 2 way option which is Suburban model SW6DE. If it is just propane then you have the SW6D. Both models are wired to the 12V DC system for the direct spark ignition. Only the SW6DE is wired with 120V AC for the 1440 watt electric heating element to work.

And some will go the more complicated route of installing one permanently.

Jim covered it all here, including a link to the exact heater:

Dave's link covers your query. You could easily build a box around it to protect it, while allowing stuff to get stacked on top if you want.

Unfortunately, this heater (Whispa E50) was discontinued buy the manufacturer. There is no replacement from them so you'll have to go with a different brand. I'm currently installing a Marley QTS 1500T. I don't think it's as nice, but it's available.

That's too bad, though there were a lot of other good brands and models to choose from.

That is indeed a fine job on a nice heater. And Jasper was so smart to have that installed right where he could get the most good from it.

Raj, It won't take much for your 17. This inexpensive little 120V floor/counter top heater keeps our 21' cozy warm, but then, we ordered extra insulation with thermal windows and spray insulation underneath (not sure what extra insulation options you chose). It also has a small footprint and stows easily out of the way in a lower galley cabinet.

Installing a small electric heater is relatively easy, just locate an area near an electric outlet under one of the benches, see here for details http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...ions-8841.html

Save the receipt. Try any electric heater at home in a small room.
I got a noisy one and returned it for another.

We have had excellent service from Vornado brand heaters (and fans). They are more expensive than most, but are very quiet and reliable.
