bye bye stripper pole?
I was looking at the new Escape website and noticed they changed the area around the door again on the 19.
The stripper pole is gone and it looks like a white "fiberglass?" part takes its place. And the scalp remover has a bit more protection at the top.

The curvature on the door any frame makes me think that's a photo from the previous generation.

Yes, that looks like the "classic" rather than the 2017+ models. But, it does seem that there should be a more elegant solution than that ugly stripper pole! :-)

You can change it to whatever you want, that works for the application. It's sorta like those Fugly twisty rods Scamp uses. I've seen a bunch of really great changes made. But truly, after owning Ten Forward for more than three years now, I hardly even "see" the stripper pole any more.

Makes a great addl grab handle I would imagine as well. Pic is definitely a classic as the retractable screen door among other things gives it away. Nice interior though!

It's not a stripper pole, it's a handhold to grab as you exit the trailer. (Well not really, but it works great for that too.)

Darn, I was hoping the scalp remover ( the thin metal edge right at the top of the door) was enclosed. If so I was going to inquire if it could be retrofitted.
For those under 6 foot tall that may not make any sense.
Even though I am aware of it I still make contact with it at least once every trip. Usually when I am carrying something.

I'm 5'10" and have hit my head too many times to remember on the door opening. Dirk is 5'8" and he has too. Really hard, I might add.
So, I think you'd have to be wwwaaayyyy under 6' to not hit the top of the stupid door opening. One of the things I want to do this winter is add some sort of padding up there.

Karen at 5'6" has not hit it she clears it without ducking. Usually I clear it fine. It's when I'm moving stuff around, a little tired and distracted and almost every time carrying something out the door that I make contact.
I looked at the top and am not sure how to fill in the area since that is what the door seals against. So the picture showing the area filled in made me take notice. If that had been the new new style I would have been asking if I can retrofit it to mine.
We like the stripper pole, but Karen does not like that name for it.

Up where?
Make sure you get the right size! And different colours, so Dirk isn't putting on yours

Pool Noodles
I'm shorter and have also whomped my head a few times, as have others. I have ordered some yellow pool noodles (Amazon) which (I hope) will match the upholstery color. I plan to cut one to the correct length and then cut a 90 degree notch along the length. I will attach it with the velcro type command strips.

Didn't mean to offend anyone 😊. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder after all! Curious as to why the new version needs the pole whereas the classic version did not. Deleting it is not an option from Escape.

Now reading all this, question: Is the new generation Escape's entrance a different size? What is so much changed, beside just the straight door?
Cause I see only "bruised" reports from '17 owners ..... ?

It makes the area more rigid. Someone with an older unit had cracking above the door and I think they were going to add the pole if I remember correctly.
It does not look bad and can be used as a assist when you are going in or out so not sure why anyone would want to delete it.

Not sure since I have not been in an older 19. I do know that I have to warn folks who visit our trailer to watch it as they exit as a few have really bopped their heads.
It's a similar design to the one used in stickbuilts and I never made contact in them. Next time I am around one like I previously owned I'll have to measure and see what the difference is.

No problem Carl NH. I measured the span over the doorway and thought it would be a good idea for support . I also really do like the look . Maybe on the new 19 's it had to do with the new awning ? Pat

Also across from the doorway is the bath which makes good support on that side . Just my thinking . Pat

Yes, I'm sure it's something structural. Possibly the awning as you mentioned or maybe the straight sides of the new design provide less rigidity. In any case, was thinking about taking up pole dancing anyway.

This is just me speculating, but my guess is that with the classic 19’, the curve of the main door combined with the vertical framing for the screen just inboard, created kind of a truss situation. With the new straight door, there is not as much structural strength because one doesn’t have an arch. Hence the need for the pole.
