Any reason to keep 5.0TA hatch?
So here's my ponder. Is there any reason to have the outside hatch door on the passenger side of the 5.0TA? The small one in front of the door?
I saw somewhere (can't find it now, of course) where someone had Escape put a door on the inside which could access that space. With that, why would I need or want the outside door? I'm probably overlooking something very basic.
I was just thinking not having the door would make the trailer look better, but obviously, function over form. Thanks.

It is a very deep storage area. I put occasionally used things like the rear stabilizer crank in it. I also store the propane hose in this spot. Plus the power jack manual crank (or what-ever it's called).
I considered creating an access from the inside but have found that I don't need the extra access for this type of storage.

The space is divided with a "floor". The top half is accessed via the inside door and the lower half is accessed via the lowered hatch. It has chocks, and various other outdoor stuff. The upper half can not be accessed from outside hatch.

Hi: nathanj04011... It balances off the one on the other side of the trailer where the control buttons for the landing gear are located. We use it for seldom needed jugs of Meguire's carwash and LA's Totally Awesome dollar store cleaner along with the hand crank for the front landing gear etc!!!Alf

I asked Reace about a door on the inside, he more or less said no - not enough space to put one in. I put my water hoses and extra electrical cords in there, also a few "tall" things.

Post #95 of thread entitled "Escape 5.0TA Questions."
As others have stated, it is very deep and unless you plan to put long items in it, the top part could very well be wasted space. For that reason, dividing it and making the top portion accessible from the inside might be a good idea. Had I seen it prior to my build, I probably would have asked Reace to do the same for me (Chris' pictures show it is possible). However, it would likely be somewhat difficult or inconvenient to reach the bottom if you only had inside access and the compartment was not divided. I don't use it very often because I primarily keep spare parts in it such as a water heater anode, a water heater element, spare wheel bearings (pre-packed), inner seals for wheel hubs, etc. Most everything in mine is a "back-up" item for components I know are susceptible to failure.

Yes, Chris had the hatch lowered, and added a shelf just above it which was accessed from a new door inside facing the door. This turned the one space into two.
