Ditance between tires on Escape !9'
I'm planning on purchasing "X-Chocks" for the tandem 19' Escape but need to know the space between the tires. Anyone have their unit nearby, I'd appreciate some info, thanks.

The tires are 3" apart. We have the X-Chocks and like them a lot. In retrospect, we might have just bought one, since we find the 19 stable enough that way. --Liz

Re: Ditance between tires on Escape !9'
I use the X-Chocks on my Escape 19 and have been very pleased with them. They are easy to use and lock the wheels very securely. While they are not as cheap as plastic chocks, I think that it is money well spent.

Re: Ditance between tires on Escape !9'
The information with X-"chocks" says that they are not to be used in place of chocks. Apparently, they are not meant to be regular chocks. I gather that what they are is stabilizers for when you are in the trailer and I think they are referred to in their info as stabilizers.
I saw that someone on another forum had tested his chocks and his X-"chocks." He said his trailer moved with the X-chocks but not with the wedge chocks. Some people have said that their X-chock directions say that the X-chocks are not to be put in place until after the trailer is levelled and need to be removed before unhitching. Obviously, that is when chocks have to be in place and regular chocks need to be used at that time. The info further stated that if you have the X-chocks in before you are level or while unhitching, you can damage your tires.
The name of these is possibly very misleading and I guess that only when they are received do most people find out that they are not to be used in place of chocks. Having said all of that, I do see that there are at least two kinds of such X-chocks but I would be surprised if the instructions are any different, one from the other. Maybe someone has his instructions and has something different on one of those kinds?

I think I meant to say "before hitching" instead of unhitching but then I have mixed myself up on this probably!

Re: Ditance between tires on Escape !9'
I must have skipped reading the instructions because I use my X-Chocks as chocks and they seem to work well in the places that I camp. I will admit that if I parked the trailer on ground that was slippery enough that the wheels could slide without rotating, and was steep enough that this would actually happen, then they may be less effective than regular chocks. Of course the front jack would still be on the ground so it still wouldn't go very far.
I always put them on before unhitching and take them off after I have hitched, just like regular chocks, and have not damaged my tires yet. I am having trouble visualizing just how doing this could do any damage.

Re: Ditance between tires on Escape !9'
I used them on another dual axle trailer and found that they reduced the amount of trailer movement significantly. The torsion axles will allow movement while the wheel is blocked by the conventional wheel chock. But with both the chock and the x-chocks in place, it becomes rock solid, because you are blocking/wedging the tires from front and back of each tire x4.

Re: Ditance between tires on Escape !9'
I have never used regular chocks with my X-Chocks, and have never had the slightest issue. I even park on a steep drive. I could see, like Harold mentioned, that if the ground was slick, that the two wheels could slide together possibly.
