I thought at one time I saw an Escape Trailer with some hand made PVC and suction cup designed window sun shades (awnings). I can't find them in the archives. They may help.

Yes you did! It was http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...mods-2274.html
TechFan did a great job and we copied that design and made our own too...very useful mod and easy to do.
We have not, however, made one for over the fridge as our awning is on that side. We have thought about it though for those times when you don't want to leave the awning deployed. We would use something like Sunbrella for that side so the awning would not restrict airflow as much as our canvas awnings do because the awning would have to extend much farther down to cover the full length of the fridge area but it could certainly be done.

Yes, but given that none of those models have the 6.7 cu ft unit, and only some would have the optional 4.3 cu ft unit, I suspect that most of the 17' and smaller model owners would not read this topic.
If you're looking for experience with models that don't need the baffle (due a smaller refrigerator cabinet), then the original 5.0 (most of the body is like a 17', but taller) would also be interesting.

Your likely correct Brian. It could also be that the smaller models don't have the problem due to the common denom. and so they don't read the post.
It would be interesting to block the sun on the larger Escape Trailers (with the fridge vents on the sun side) with some form of shade to see if this is the issue.
I also noted that some say even Airstream has the (same) problem with their fridges. A quick look at their site shows their fridges are on the sun side of the trailer too.

I've been reading the post and thankfully have the small fridge in our 17.
No issues with being too warm--I keep it on "2" almost all the time--I do plugin at home for at least three days to allow it to get cool for a day and a bit ,then load the food at least a day ahead of time (yeah I am a PITA organizer!)
I did buy one of those small battery operated fans for inside the fridge as the lettuce did freeze frequently..
We do travel always with the propane on..
In our Boler which had an old fridge on the drivers side and I remember in Osoyoos area it not cooling enough due to the hot sun beating on the trailer... We did use a cooler on that trip...I think we also rigged up something for shade on that side but can't remember what. But I do remember when we got our Escape I was pleased the fridge was under the awning...
It may be the small fridge but glad we have it!

Most Airstreams, 19' and smaller have the refer on curb side, 2 side vents, and an external fan control by the door.

Hi Dick,
What region are you traveling in? 50 degrees is a bit too high for my comfort. You need to maintain a temperature something closer to 40. Working your refrigerator that hard 24/7 may spell failure ahead. Again we need more information to help you.

The layout plan I saw on the Airstream site had the fridges on the street side.
50% of the pictures have them located on either side I guess according to the trim layout.

This thread appears to have gone off topic.
Should we not have posted most of this stuff here
Problem Solving | Owners helping each other - Escape Trailer Owners Community
and left this thread for Reace and made it easier for those who do have problems and are waiting to hear back from him? In his emails he said he would post more info here but it is getting harder to find if he has.

You are right, I'll move the posts, but before that, the Airstream Bambi 16 and 19 and 20' have the refers on the curb side, at least prior to current years, which I have not looked at.

I think those are mine. Just go to the website below and click on outside awnings.

We have the 21 with the big frig and have not had a problem. We try and pack the main frig lightly and pack the freezer fairly full. If it's super hot, in the 90's and the temp is creeping up I put of bag of ice from the freezer into the frig, cools right down. We leave it on propane while traveling. The other day I forgot to put the door on lock and something fell over and popped it open. When we stopped the temp was up to 45! Put some ice in and it cooled down to 40 within an hour. We have a battery operated fan inside.

That's one reason I don't like phone apps for these forums - they're so brain-dead.

How do you lock the door for traveling?
