In Alberta we have an actual rat patrol . If any signs of - or - rats are detected - perhaps from a semi/train/rv .....the hunt is on ......it usually makes every news cast until resolved ......

Here's a link to an article about how all the vehicle manufacturers are going green. And feeding rodents.
Incredible Edible Car
My neighbor was feeding squirrels for awhile. After they chewed up the wiring on her van she stopped.

Let's not just blame the rats. Ground squirrels can do a lot of damage in a short period of time too. Below are two pictures of what squirrels did to the heat shield material on a Volvo 850 in Cheney, Washington. Fortunately, they had not moved on to the wiring:

Our 2015 Toyota Highlander has had its wires recently chewed by rats, it was a $260 bill to have it fixed. It leaves me with the feeling that my TV is no longer dependable. It think there are couple of lawsuits progressing the U.S. You would have thought auto manufacturers would have figured it out by now.

My Dad once told me that when he was a teenager in the 1930's, his father, my grandfather, used to drop some of the original old naphthalene moth balls in the gas tank of the family car to increase octane and horsepower when they were going to be driving over high mountain passes (this was in Colorado). I wouldn't have the nerve to try that in one of today's computer-controlled autos. It would probably blow the motherboard!

Used to put a block of bromadiolone under the hood, next to the battery. Rodents seem to go for that over anything else under there.

My dad used to mix fly poison with peanut butter and put some on wax paper in places. Fly poison is quick, the rat or mouse usually was laying right next to the bait the next day.
