removing window tinting

We have a 21' new to us 2015 trailer. The windows are deeply tinted and it makes the inside dark all the time. I think I can talk my husband into letting me "un-tint" at least some of the windows...maybe the one over the sink and the big back window. Has anyone done this themselves? Any advice? Thanks

We are very happy the windows are tinted. Reduces UV, keeps the interior cooler, and helps with keeping the interior darker in the early morning when we want to sleep in.

We don't find the tint dark. Was this additional tinting added later?

I think the only way you're going to remove the tint is to replace the glass. The window tint is the glass, it wasn't applied after like Casita owners (and others) have to do.

I'm afraid Donna is right. How do I "test" to see if the tinting is in the glass?

A call to ETI would confirm they're using tinted windows versus after tinting.

If the tinting is aftermarket you will be able to cut it with an exacto or utility knife. if the answer is yes it is aftermarket you can CAREFULLY use a hair drier and peel it off....good luck!

Take it to a window tinting place. They should be able to tell you if it's in the glass or not.

If you have a 2015 model, it is in the glass....

if it's not in the glass, it's outside the glass, and will look like a film and will peal off when scratched.

Aftermarket automotive tinting is film applied to the inside surface of the glass (on the outside is too vulnerable to damage)... but on either side, film could possibly be peeled off while dark glass is permanent. Even with a film, I would be hesitant to start peeling and perhaps end up with a mess.

It's really not that hard to remove. A box of single edged razor blades and some alcohol (iso) and some time. I've done it many times.

I agree - as long as it's installed like typical aftermarket tint film. If the window factory uses film, it could be anything.

We only have one vehicle with aftermarket window tint, and it was done properly so we've never had to remove it... but one piece was damaged and when the tint shop replaced that one it took seconds for them to remove, and maybe a minute to clean up.
