storage box ?'s
I just picked up the storage box to mount on my 19' Escape and have a few clearance questions. How much distance is there between the lid and the trailer body? It opens even if it's touching the hinge rivets BUT I figure they put a little distance between the lid and body.
Also I am assuming that the batteries are mounted in the plastic boxes with lids, inside the box.
I will be building some spacers to fit between the original battery frame work and the new f/g box. They gave me a few bolts but they aren't going to be long enough.
Thanks!
steve

My dual batteries stand alone in the storage box; they are not in a box in a box.

My box is homemade but there are similarities. One of my batteries came with a box and is still in the box. The second battery isn't in a battery box but it is covered with an EPDM (rubber mat).
Two things are important: one, protect the terminals from coming in contact with any metal object and, secondly, use a hold down strap to keep them in place. A run of the mill ratchet strap works really well.

Hi,
I am getting a storage box with dual 6 volt batteries and am was sent pictures of the batteries by santacruzer. I will send you pictures if you PM me with your e-mail address. The batteries do not sit in the boxes in the storage box. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Our dual sixes (Escape installed) set on a piece of plywood. On the left and right sides of the batteries are threaded rods hooked to the bottom plywood. On top of the batteries is
another piece of half inch plywood, slotted on the edges where the rod goes with a rubber gasket, washer and wing nut on each. Easy access, protected battery tops, plenty of ventilation and easy access to add water when needed.

Yikes, don't remember...and my trailer is in storage. Maybe someone will post a picture here soon. If not, I can do it Monday or Tuesday as I'm bringing it home to go out camping.

I will slip down to my building (back yard) tomorrow and take a couple pictures. I like the dual 6 interstates they installed, there's an over center cap lock that secures the battery caps and lifts off all three at once. I fill them with a turkey blaster and a bowl of distilled water when needed. Not often. I keep the unit plugged in, I have 30 amp service with RV receptacle that my bro installed for me. I check the power levels with solar readout unit in the camper. I have a specific gravity checker but don't use it often.

Is there a cover of some kind that goes over the batteries in your picture? I'd be nervous about the exposed terminals.

I believe yes, and it's a piece of wood that just covers the top, screwed down by wing nuts. Two metal rods on either side are part of securing the wood in place.

perfecto ALL! now if someone would measure or even eyeball the distance from the back of the box to the trailer body. it appears that it could be sitting tight BUT I think a 1/2" or so would be best. ??
thanks

I think 1/2" would be a bit to close. measuring from the hinge, mine is about
1 1/4"
