Jim, with the support bags you have installed in your TV I don't think a 6" extension would be unsafe at all. In fact, I'll bet that if you add about 5-10lbs to the bags the gate will clear. You may be able to rig an onboard tank and hit the "boost" button to raise the rear end a tad....
The air bags do not raise the vehicle, they just make the ride firmer. It hits the tailgate with or without air. I need to somehow remove the last 6" of the handle yet be able to re-attach.

Assuming that there is a clearance problem inspite of the handle position and you are using WD, you might consider a longer ball mount if you can find one with the correct rise or drop.

I have the electric jack, combined with the front storage box & dual propane on my 17B. The fit is so tight I had to modify the back side of the tank cover to get enough clearance to open & close the storage box.

I'm already using a w/d stinger set up without the bars, extends 12", I have found one @ Etrailer that is 16" here Ball Mount Class III 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop - Super Extra Long, 6,000 lbs Hidden Hitch Ball Mounts 80232
just wondering what the extra length would do to the handling??

I have a manual tongue jack on my scamp that hit the propane tank. What I did is take off the whole original handle and welded on a nut that matched the Bal leveling nut that we have in the back. This way I was able to us their handle in two places. The handle sticks straight up and turn it quite easily.

It is a 3/4" nut on the Escape stabilizers. You could just weld a not on the top of the jack. My BAL X-chocks use a 3/4" wrench too.

I found an old top mount "Bulldog" 5000lb jack in the garage which I disassembled and cleaned/lubricated. Took the top handle off and found a 3/4 wheel lug nut which is just right size. I'm going to go to HF tomorrow and get a 3/4" tap/die set and try to create some threads on the shaft. I'll then thread down the nut and have someone spot weld to keep it from unthreading. If that works, I'll install that on Quahog, remove the factory jack and do the same there, except the nut shaft will be horizontal, not vertical in the Bulldog. I'll cut the handle with hacksaw, thread the shaft and install another 3/4" nut and have it spot welded. That way I'll have a spare if one fails while on the road. Pictures to follow. I have several 3/4 ratchet's I use for the wheel stabilizers so I should be in business.

If you're taking it in for a weld, you might as well save yourself the exercise with the hack-saw and get them to cut it off with a torch.

Not sure if that process will allow me to cut some threads, it may not be a smooth cut. I'll ask.
