For a very elegant, albeit expensive, marine solution take a look at this: https://www.lunasealighting.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/LLB-33xW-81-OT_for_web1-1.pdf The internal dimming makes it easy...

@MyronL: I found it difficult to locate the ones I linked to, and I didn't find a warm white one. There are lots of clusters available, in different colors, but they usually require a separate driver...

Red as a night light color has a long history, and a theory to back it up. The rod cells in our eyes are what give us night vision, and they are insensitive to red light (and most sensitive to...

I doubt they will rattle loose, as they are so lightweight. I have used LEDs with bases like these in my MDX and they go in very tight and stay put. As for brightness, I take these specs with a grain...

Generically they are called wedge base, but specifically it is a T-10 base (T style, 10mm wide).

This style of LED module does not last long in vehicle applications, especially with modern...

@Padlin: That comparison is oddly weighted against gels - tempting to suggest a certain bias. Their brands do represent more AGMs than gels, which is representative of the industry.

Yes, quality costs extra. I will probably give the East Penn Deka gel batteries a try because of the lower price, and I don't expect to be doing any more ocean crossings - but I'm sticking with gels....

I think you are confusing "absorption" with "equalizing". A typical flooded lead acid (FLA) battery needs a low enough absorption voltage that it is not a problem for most 12VDC systems using 3-step...

Any system using a 3-step regulator is going to have voltages that require properly-regulated LEDs, or suffer LED reliability problems. We certainly agree that is something that needs attention,...

@tdf-texas: As I mentioned earlier, why wouldn't you just switch to gel batteries and stop using those high voltages? It seems preferable to adapting all of the 12VDC devices to an 11V-16V range. Or...

It seems to me that the tail is wagging the dog here. At least one of the sources of the problem is a high charge voltage, which is required for getting AGM batteries to a full SOC for longevity. The...

Ouch! NEVER equalize batteries while they are driving pretty much anything. 15.8V is waay too far above a nominal 12V to be a good idea to run through the circuits. Then again, invest in gel...

As long as you are looking at $13 fixtures you can expect problems. The regulators that I use, before buying fixtures or LEDs, are $18 retail. The Chinese sell cheap constant-current regulators for a...

Nice work - I like it. I was looking at changing the internals to have a proper current regulation (LEDs need current, not voltage, regulation) but of course if the voltage into the fixture is...

That is disappointing to say the least. At least with the fixtures that use standard sockets it is easy to replace the LED module with a proper one. It isn't at all hard to re-wire the others if...

That is one cheap LED module, which is probably why it burned out. I wouldn't waste time trying to get an exact replacement. It has LEDs with series current-limiting resistors; a module designed for...
