The only thing the awning rod gets used for is to get the stinky slinky outta its holder. I just use my finger to pull on the webbing loop. With the raised axle I only have a couple inches to spare...

I would never go without an awning either, we just use it way too much. It shades against sun, and is invaluable during rainy periods. We have had a dozen people under ours a few times. Without it...

Unless a quick overnight stop, I always put the awning up. It only takes about 2 minutes. I prefer to roll it up dry, but don't sweat it too much. I just open it up again the next time out and it...
