I didn't use the supplied vent cover because partly I was concerned about blowing rain coming in, especially while driving, but mainly because I really like the JR hood cover (with the flap removed)...

When you remove the outside cover of the JR vent...

When you remove the outside cover of the JR vent cover, the flap is easily removed by flexing it enough to pull the hinge pins out of the sides. I made a wire mesh screen and added it to the opening...
