Burnishing & Adjusting Brakes TV Tire Pressures
I was look a Dexter manual about Synchronizing the brake controller and the Tow Vehicle. They recommend applying the brakes 20-30 times for a 20 mph reduction in speed, eg from 40 to 20 mph, allowing time for the brakes to cool in between prior to synchronization. This is to allow the brake shoes and magnets to slightly wear in to the drum surface.
I haven't noticed this being mentioned, especially among new owners. Is this still common practice?
Dexter mentions that most of their brakes are self adjusting. Are the brakes on an Escape self adjusting? Just for the record they recommend brake adjustment after the first 200 miles after the brake shoes and drums have seated.
I am not certain as to what tire pressures to use on my truck, 2004 Silverado 5.3 L
Page 10 of the Escape Manual recommends setting the rear tire pressure to the maximum cold pressure listed on the sidewalls. Is this the procedure that most members follow? My tires are rated at 2271Lbs @44 psi,
How about the front tires? Unfortunately the sticker that is normally by the drivers door is missing. Per what I find on the internet the normal operating pressures front and rear should be 35 psi.
I would appreciate any suggestions for the front and rear tire pressures and thoughts on burnishing.
thanks,
Jim A.
