We have a 2020 F-150 XLT 4x4 with the 3.5L EcoBoost to pull our 2021 5.0. It has the 6.5’ bed and a super crew cab. I originally (prior to trailer order) wanted to get a Ranger or Frontier thinking it would get better mileage. But now we appreciate the extra size and engine, never feeling like we are left wanting more power on hill climbs, etc. We get 13-15 mpg when towing. What we are left wanting is more capacity on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating GVWR. Ours is 7,050 lbs, and we’re right at that (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it) with the two of us, bed toolbox, generator, gooseneck/Anderson Ulimate hitch, roof rack & Thule XL box with two fold-up kayaks, and all our year-round clothes and supplies. I haven’t researched which models and/or configurations would have greatest GVWR, but you might keep it in mind when truck shopping.

Lovely rig there, Duane
Some Gen 14 2021-2023 F150's with configurations similar to yours get a 7150 GVWR, but I've not figured out what exactly 'triggers' that 100# higher rating.
There is also the "HDPP / Heavy Duty Payload Package", a line-item option for Gen 14 2021-2023 (and maybe earlier Gen 13?) F150's which boosts GVWR even more. That could / can be had with certain configurations including the XLT SuperCab + 6.5ft bed + 3.5 EB engine (but not higher trims and not middle-range wheelbases).

For those who might be looking at an F-150 (2018 and newer) you can get the vehicle tow ratings if you have the last 8 digits of the truck's VIN

You might want to consider a new Tundra SR, a little less horse power the the SR 5, not the tow haul mode but cheaper and given the demand for your tundra model you wouldn't put out much. 4x2 extended cab has the max payload. Im looking at one. A few less horse power and max tow capacity but well within what you need. Not as many bells and whistles though. The turbo 6 is detuned so a bit better gas mileage, certainly plenty of power tough. You'd have to add your own brake controller. Its a more basic truck, but you can get one for 40,000. Me I could care less about fancy trucks.

We have both a 2021 Toyota Tundra and a 5.0 TA.
I would say I would never go less than the tundra but I do live in an area with mountains.

Ford 250 XLT Super Duty and 5.0 coming soon
We made the decision to be safe . When we compared the Ford 250 with the 150, we found the 250 comes with the features you would add to the 150. You come out ahead with the 250. Plus the 250 is a work truck. We have a Super cab, 8 foot bed and the new 7.3 V8 engine. We ordered the truck and it took 8mths. Somehow we were lucky with the time frame. We have the truck now. Yes it is big LOL and very powerful LOL . Overkill? Yes. We wanted to be able to tow and not worry!

The trailer weighs about 4400 pounds wet.
We get 16.4 MPG (imperial gallons). We tow at about 110 kmh.
The Sierra has a 10 speed automatic and is very smooth.
We looked at a 2022 Tundra but didn't like the seats, nor the massive in dash (and above dash for that matter) monitor.

Does it have or did you buy a towing package? Is it two-wheel or four-wheel drive? Thanks.

We are going to order the 2023 XL with 3.5 EB & HDPP! Special order F150's are now running only 8-12 weeks (fingers crossed!) New 7,850# GWVR, hopefully payload should be > 2,200# (max of 2,640# before added options.) We looked at the F250's, but none we saw were under the 58" max tailgate/rail height, mileage would drop by a third, and would still pay $10k-$15k more.
It's still a costly newbie learning experience. (Sorry, kid...no inheritance for you! )
Thanks, I wouldn't have known without your reply.

WooHoo, congratulations Duane!
I hope it's delivered timely and meets your expectations
(Since you're 'ordering to spec' you might consider the optional trailer tow mirrors on this one; not strictly necessary but I sure like 'em both towing my 5.0 and daily driving)

Excellent choice. You will not be disappointed! Centex is right, the tow mirrors work great.

Currently down in Arizona towing a 2016 5 TA with a 2010 5.7 litre Tundra. Been using this set up for 7 years and would not consider changing it. The 5 TA was designed for a full sized half ton. It doesn’t matter which truck manufacturer you use but STRONGLY suggest that you stay with the full sized half ton engine. No matter how bad conditions got over the years I never once felt the Tundra was struggling to pull the rig.

I have to ask. What exactly is a "full sized half ton engine"?
