Hi: All... I really feel that trailer towing is as much a state of mind as class of tug!!! I would certainly not advocate breaking all the guide lines set out by the Mfg's, but some grains of salt are required. Understanding the mind set of the guy/gal in the red sports job trying to pass you is also required.
Our first trailer was a Boler 13'er. The tow cap. of our Taurus wagon is only 1250lbs. but it's rated to carry 2000lbs of cargo/ 7 pass. Rightly or wrongly I figured I could max. out on the tow for just the two of us and not much cargo.
We haven't had the pleasure of our new combo yet but with the old tug running 58 MPH. we averaged 18.5 MPG. on a 3000 Mi. trip. I have never felt the trailer wagging the tug but I have experienced major brake fade after a series of steep grades in the Eastern Mts.
So far I've only heard of one crack up of an Escape trailer followed by a plea from Reace& Tammy on the safe loading of your trailer.
"Know your limit and tow with in it" is sage advice. Alf
